Mendel Festival

  • 20 – 24 July 2022
  • Mendel Square, Brno

The programme of Mendel Festival includes popular-science events, organized in cooperation with Mendel Museum, guided tours of the monastery premises, lectures given by experts and cultural events with Czech and world music pop stars. The festival will also include a travel to Mendel’s times, a visit to the village of Vražné, Mendel’s birthplace, and a solemn mass in the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in Brno.

One of the highlights will be a gala concert of Brno Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic Choir on Friday 22 July 2022, who will perform Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass and the world premiere of a composition to be written for Mendel’s celebrations by one of the outstanding contemporary composers, Tigran Mansurian. The new composition as well as the Glagolitic Mass will be conducted by the chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies and will be the peak of the orchestra's collaboration with the composer. The concert will be live-streamed worldwide. Joining Mendelssohn, Janáček, Mansurian and Davies in one concert is an appropriate culmination of the celebrations.
