Brno has recently commemorated the anniversary of the death of Gregor Johann Mendel by wrath laying ceremony at Brno’s central cemetery. Masaryk University Rector Martin Bareš also signed a memorandum of cooperation on the foundation of “Gregor Mendel Centre for Sustainability”.
A greenhouse dating back to 1854 in which Gregor Johann Mendel conducted his experiments with peas, laying the foundations of modern genetics, has been restored with MU support in the grounds of the Augustinian Abbey in Brno.
Masaryk University’s Mendel Museum is celebrating the bicentenary of Mendel’s birth ahead of schedule with a new exhibition named ‘Genetics: The Wonderful Journey into the Cell Nucleus’.
Until 15 March visitors to EXPO 2020 in Dubai had the chance to explore Mendel 200, an exhibit about the father of genetics organized by Masaryk University. As many as 10,000 people a day visited the exhibition.
