Genetics: A Fascinating Journey into the Cell Nucleus

This new exhibition of the Mendel Museum shows that genetics is “not rocket science”. The modern interactive exhibition provides information about Mendel’s experiments, discoveries, and the basics of genetics and molecular biology in an entertaining manner. In a single tour of the museum, visitors will thus uncover the foundations of genetics while also exploring its present-day applications.

Discover the story of the founder of genetics

The exhibition titled Gregor Johann Mendel – The Story of a Humble Genius combines modern technologies with its historical premises. It unveils the genius of a man who was ahead of his time. The exhibition features original objects that belonged to the “Father of Genetics”, his school reports, books, or teaching aids. The crowning piece of the display is Mendel’s seminal work, Versuche über Pflanzenhybriden (Experiments with Plant Hybrids).

The Monastery in Old Brno

Monastic life in Old Brno dates back to the 1323 charter of the Bohemian and Polish queen Elizabeth Richeza. The convent she established, run by the Cistercian Order, was a place of prayer and later also a refuge for the ill. The Cistercian nuns lived here for almost five centuries, until 1782, when their community was dissolved by the reforms of Joseph II. The premises includes the Basilica of the Assumption of Mary, built in the Silesian Gothic style with characteristic red bricks.
